CARL WALLIN

Puck University Professor, Founder, and Owner

I grew up in Chicago playing hockey from the age of 3. Living in Elmhurst, IL I played my early years for the Glen Ellyn Flames before moving to AAA at Peewee with the Chicago Young Americans. I played for CYA, the Chicago Chill, and the Chicago Mission from the years of Peewee Minor through Midget Major.

After Midget Major I decided that my passions laid in coaching rather than playing, and I immediately began to work towards that dream. Despite having major junior tryouts in the OHL, and American junior in the USHL, NAHL, and EJHL, I knew my passion was coaching and as of this year I have over 15 years of experience as a coach. I was the head coach of my first team at 19 years old, a squirt AA team at the Northwest Chargers. The next year I moved back to my old club CYA and coached there as well as other places for the next 10+ years, along with scouting in the NAHL, and coaching at the US National Camp in Rochester, NY. My last year in Chicago I was the Bantam Hockey Director and Associate Skills Coach for the Chicago Bulldogs organization, as well as in my second season as the assistant coach at Robert Morris University where I was pursuing my MBA.

I decided to put all of that on hold as I felt the call of God on my life to go to South Korea. I spent a year and a half working with special needs students at Daegu University, and teaching English to Koreans of all ages. Because of my passion for coaching I decided to move to Seoul where I began to get involved with the hockey community.

After South Korea I moved back to Chicago where I was the head coach of the Orland Park Vikings Mite AA and Squirt AA teams while finishing my MBA. In June of 2020, I accepted the role of Hockey Director at Chaparral Ice and moved to Austin, TX in order to grow and build hockey of all levels to its greatest extent. I now work at Dell, and give back to the community through Puck University.
